Description

A comforting and indulgent lasagna filled with layers of seasoned ground beef, Italian sausage, creamy ricotta, and gooey mozzarella, perfect for celebrating the holiday season.


Ingredients

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare your baking dish.
  2. Boil the lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  3. Cook the meat in a large skillet over medium heat, browning the ground beef and Italian sausage. Drain excess fat, then stir in onion and garlic. Cook until onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. Mix in the marinara sauce and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Combine ricotta cheese, egg, basil, salt, and pepper in a bowl until smooth.
  6. Layer the ingredients in the baking dish, starting with one-third of the meat sauce, then noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, and a sprinkle of mozzarella and Parmesan. Repeat, ending with the last of the meat sauce and the remaining cheeses on top.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

You can make this lasagna a day ahead and refrigerate it. It reheats beautifully. Customize it by adding vegetables or different cheeses.
