- 12 lasagna noodles
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound Italian sausage
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 cups marinara sauce
- 15 ounces ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare your baking dish.
- Boil the lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Cook the meat in a large skillet over medium heat, browning the ground beef and Italian sausage. Drain excess fat, then stir in onion and garlic. Cook until onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Mix in the marinara sauce and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
- Combine ricotta cheese, egg, basil, salt, and pepper in a bowl until smooth.
- Layer the ingredients in the baking dish, starting with one-third of the meat sauce, then noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, and a sprinkle of mozzarella and Parmesan. Repeat, ending with the last of the meat sauce and the remaining cheeses on top.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.
- Rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
You can make this lasagna a day ahead and refrigerate it. It reheats beautifully. Customize it by adding vegetables or different cheeses.
