Description

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces pasta shells
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (sharp cheddar preferred)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: breadcrumbs for topping

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta shells: Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil, add the pasta shells, and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Melt the butter: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Form the roux: Once the butter melts, stir in the flour and whisk thoroughly, cooking for about 1 minute.
  4. Add milk gradually: Slowly whisk in the milk, bringing the mixture to a simmer and thickening it slightly.
  5. Add the cheese: Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheese until melted and smooth.
  6. Season and combine: Add salt and pepper to taste, then fold in the cooked pasta shells.
  7. Transfer to a baking dish: Pour the cheesy pasta into a baking dish if baking.
  8. Top and bake: Sprinkle breadcrumbs on top, and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
