Description

Japanese Milk Bread is a soft and fluffy bread known for its rich texture and slightly sweet flavor, making it a delightful addition to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the bread flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
  2. In a separate bowl, warm the milk and mix in the softened butter until melted.
  3. Add the milk mixture and egg to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into three equal pieces.
  7. Shape each piece into a ball and then roll them into logs.
  8. Place the logs in a greased loaf pan and let them rise again until doubled, about 30-45 minutes.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use whole milk instead of low-fat milk.
  • Ensure the yeast is fresh for the best rise.
  • This bread can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
