Description

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Zest of 1 lemon

Instructions

  1. Combine the sourdough starter and warm water in a large mixing bowl, stirring gently.
  2. Add the sugar and let it sit for about 10 minutes until it becomes bubbly and active.
  3. Gradually add the flour and salt to the mixture, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Fold in the blueberries and lemon zest gently to avoid crushing the berries.
  6. Place the dough into a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for 4 to 6 hours, or until doubled in size.
  7. Punch down the dough to release air bubbles and shape it into a loaf.
  8. Mix softened cream cheese with lemon juice until smooth, then spread over the top of the shaped dough.
  9. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Cool the bread on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes
