- 1 head cauliflower, cut into florets
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: garlic powder, paprika for seasoning
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare the cauliflower by boiling in salted water until just tender, about 5-7 minutes.
- Drain the cauliflower and set aside.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter, stir in the flour to create a roux, and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until thickened, about 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheese until melted; season with salt, pepper, and optional spices.
- In a baking dish, combine the cooked cauliflower with the cheese sauce.
- Sprinkle the panko breadcrumbs over the mixture.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly.
- Serve hot, allowing to cool slightly before enjoying.
Notes
Customize by using different cheeses or adding vegetables like broccoli or mushrooms. Can be made ahead and refrigerated before baking.
