Description

A delightful and flavorful crispy blooming onion that’s perfect for sharing at gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil spray for air frying
  • Creamy dip (ranch or your choice)

Instructions

  1. Slice the onion into petal-like cuts, stopping short of the root.
  2. Soak the onion in buttermilk for 30 minutes.
  3. Prepare the coating by mixing flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, and salt in a bowl.
  4. Dredge the onion in the flour mixture, ensuring all petals are coated.
  5. Double-Coat by dipping the onion back into the buttermilk and then dredging it in breadcrumbs.
  6. Spray the coated onion lightly with oil.
  7. Air Fry at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Serve with your favorite creamy dip.

Notes

Make ahead of time by preparing the onion and storing it in the fridge. Reheat in air fryer to maintain crispiness.
