Description

A comforting classic featuring crispy fried steak smothered in rich, creamy gravy, perfect for family dinners and cozy nights in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tenderized beef steaks (sirloin or round)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Oil for frying (canola or vegetable)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (for gravy)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Mix together the flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder in a shallow dish.
  2. Dredge each steak in the flour mixture, coating them evenly and shaking off excess flour.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
  4. Carefully place the steaks into the hot oil, frying for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden-brown and cooked to your desired doneness.
  5. Remove the steaks from the skillet and keep warm on a plate covered with foil.
  6. Add butter to the skillet and allow it to melt over medium heat.
  7. Whisk in 2 tablespoons of flour, stirring constantly for about 1 minute.
  8. Gradually pour in the milk while continually whisking to avoid lumps.
  9. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook until it thickens, stirring frequently.
  10. Season the gravy with salt and pepper to taste.
  11. Serve the fried steaks generously topped with the creamy gravy.

Notes

Consider marinating the steak overnight for deeper flavor infusion. For a healthier twist, try using an air fryer.
