- 1 pound of green beans, trimmed
- 4 slices of bacon, chopped
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cups of chicken broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder

- 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the bacon in a large pot over medium heat until crispy and golden brown, about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Set the bacon aside, leaving the drippings in the pot.
- Sauté the diced onion and minced garlic in the bacon fat until softened, about 3 to 4 minutes.
- Add the trimmed green beans and chicken broth to the pot. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and red pepper flakes if using. Stir to combine.
- Simmer the mixture at a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 45 minutes.
- Stir in the reserved crispy bacon just before serving.
- Serve the Southern Bacon and Green Beans warm as a delightful side dish.
