Description

A comforting Southern dish combining crispy bacon and tender green beans, infused with aromatic garlic and onion for a delightful side.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound of green beans, trimmed
  • 4 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cups of chicken broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon in a large pot over medium heat until crispy and golden brown, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  2. Set the bacon aside, leaving the drippings in the pot.
  3. Sauté the diced onion and minced garlic in the bacon fat until softened, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  4. Add the trimmed green beans and chicken broth to the pot. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and red pepper flakes if using. Stir to combine.
  5. Simmer the mixture at a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 45 minutes.
  6. Stir in the reserved crispy bacon just before serving.
  7. Serve the Southern Bacon and Green Beans warm as a delightful side dish.

Notes

This dish tastes even better the next day; store in the fridge for up to three days. Cooking alternatives include using an Air Fryer or oven-roasting the green beans.
